VI COMMANDO

Sgt. Albert R. "Joe" Preen

Cpl. Albert R. “Joe” Preen served in No.1 (later becoming No.101) Troop of No.6 Commando from 1940 (in Scarborough) until, at least, 6th September 1941 – when he was noted as a Lance-Sergeant.

Sgt. Albert Preen served in No.6 Commando from, at least, October 1942 until, at least, 16th December 1942 whilst heading a Recconnaisance Patrol South of the road from Sedjenane (Algeria) to Mateur (Tunisia). He was posted missing along with three Other Ranks (including L/Cpl. Martin Winterburn) on 18th December 1942.

It is further noted that he received severe grenade shrapnel injuries to his chest in 1942, leaving him hospitalised in North Africa until his repatriation back to the UK in early 1944.

It is believed that he later retired to New Zealand.
